Firestone Golf Tournament

AJ & Grandpa Teddy
My dad, Steve and AJ spent two days at the Firestone Golf tournament. They went for a day of practice and a day of the tournament. Great fun for all three of them.

AJ was psyched on the practice day that he got Tiger Woods’ autograph and a selfie with Ernie Els. Apparently he asked Ernie if he could take a quick selfie with him and Ernie walked right up and put his arm around him.  Nice guy!

The Tribe!

Missy, Granny & Grandpa Teddy
Our summer trips to Ohio now include going to an Indians game. I love this since it was one of my favorite things to do in high school. In retrospect, by the way, my parents were way cooler than I thought they were back then.  They let me go, with high school friends, to Cleveland, a lot!

AJ has especially become a big fan, he just likes all things Ohio!  And really, why wouldn't he?

This year's game was Grandpa Teddy’s Father’s Day present, so we tried out the club seats. The seats were great!  The kids especially were not disappointed with the all you could eat food. AJ in particular took advantage of this perk!

The Circus!

Stefanie, AJ, "Uncle Sam" & Rachel
One of the first events Granny had planned for us in Ohio was a traveling circus. Since the kids hadn't been to one since they were little we thought, why not.  It was fun to watch and the acrobats were very entertaining, the kids also enjoyed the popcorn and cotton candy!  I think the kids liked having their picture taken with “Uncle Sam” the llama best.

Cousin Fun!

Brian, AJ, Rachel, missy, Stefanie, Rita & Rick
While in Delaware the kids got have a fun two nights with Steve’s sister, Rita and her family.  They were thrilled to spend time with their cousin Brian, continue their bowling tournaments, and harass their Uncle Rick.  The kids also thought it was funny that Brian had given himself a haircut similar to what Dominic is sporting at West Point!

Stefanie, Brian, AJ & Rachel
We all spent a fun Sunday with them and then Steve and I left the kids and used our time in Delaware without them to visit with our friends.  Since our cousins live so close to University of Maryland we toured the campus while we were in town. It didn’t turn out to be anyone’s favorite but it was good to see. An admission counselor’s presentation really can make or break an impression…

Concert at Cornell

AJ, Stefanie & Rachel
It was a beautiful night in Ithaca so we took the kids to Cornell for a concert on the Quad. Cornell’s campus is a beautiful place to spend a nice evening listening to music.

Lisa, Erin & Missy
We joined Steve's brother Motty and his wife Jeannie and his friends as well as our good Ithaca friends Lisa, Jon, Erin, Bill & Sophia too.  It’s so much fun to see them every summer

Horseback Riding in NY

Rachel, Stefanie & AJ
One beautiful day Steve’s brother Motty took the kids horseback riding at a friend's farm.  They had a fabulous time riding through the woods and a pond and then playing with the baby goats afterwards. It was a great treat for them!

The only downside is that we now know Stefanie is also allergic to horses.  Luckily a few doses of benedryl took care of the hives. Another thing we learned? Benedryl knocks Stefanie out, really out. She just slept and slept and slept!

4th of July!

Fourth of July is always a mini family reunion, usually most of Steve’s family joins us in Ithaca and this year was no different. The kids had fun with their cousins, the weather was beautiful and we even squeezed in a wedding shower for our nephew Victor and his bride-to-be Veronica.

Rick & Mike
We have a “washers” tournament every 4th of July.  In an attempt not to stack teams we have tried different strategies for team selection. This year however was pure random draw and the “Dream Team” of Mike and Rick randomly happened.  They are consistently two of the best players and although they did have one surprising loss they held on to go all the way. Just as they told everyone they would, over and over and over again! The tournament keeps everyone having fun and interacting with each other. It really is a highlight of the weekend. We even have a trophy!

AJ & Steve
AJ also passed a rite of passage at the lake.  It was his turn to climb the ladder up a side of the huge tree in front of Grandma's house to trim the little branches that had begun to grow.

Victor & Veronica
The wedding shower was also great fun, we all enjoyed celebrating the soon to be newlyweds.  We
are all looking forward to their wedding in New Orleans!

Dinner with the Leongs

Steve, Missy, Chia-Hui & Stan
We got a bonus visit with our friends Stan and Ch’Hui at the end of “R” day.  They were in NYC visiting from Taiwan and drove out to meet us for dinner. It was great to get to see them again so soon after their visit to Munich.

When we asked the waitress to take a picture she asked where we were from.  Munich and Taiwan were not the answers she was expecting!
