Steve’s brother Motty and his wife Jeannie decided to take a
European vacation for nearly SIX weeks! We were lucky enough to be at the
beginning and end of their adventure.
They spent a week with us when they first got here and they were busy.
On their second day, they headed to Salzburg
which was perfect because it was snowy and rainy here but sunny there. Although I do have to point out that the snow and cold weather made for some of the most fantastic mountain viewing we have ever had.

The next day we spent touring Munich. We woke up to 3 inches
of snow but thankfully it melted fairly quickly. I gave them my 50 cent tour of Munich and we
had lunch at Hofbrauhaus nearly 40 years after they had spent a New Year’s Eve
there.

The next day they spent a long day on a tour, seeing castles
but were then rewarded the following day with a trip to Frühlingsfest.
Frühlingsfest is a smaller version of Oktoberfest, but with only two tents and
a much smaller midway of rides and attractions. But it is still lots of fun. We
enjoyed all the German food, bier and wine We were also greatly entertained by
the bachelor parties that were taking place. The grooms to be were dressed in dirndls – not
always a pretty sight. And one was working through a list of tasks, Jeannie
gave him a kiss to fulfill an item off his list!

Saturday we headed to
Herzogstand. It was a BEAUTIFUL day
and the views were amazing. It was too snowy to hike so we just took the bahn
to the top and enjoyed a delicious breakfast at the hutte. Steve and Motty were
busy with their cameras because it was so pretty.
Later that afternoon Steve also took them to
Andechs, his
favorite place and the awesome mountain views continued.
To finish their first week with us, Sunday was Maibaum – May
Day. A sweet little town near us was
raising their Maypole so we rode bikes over to watch. The weather wasn’t super conducive but there
was still a crowd to watch the two hour process of raising the maypole and then
of course to sit in the tents, eat, drink and celebrate.

We’re excited to see them again at the end of the month!
