Dominic Graduates!

Dominic graduated from the Munich International School on June 1, 2014. The flippant thing to say is: "one down, three to go", but there really is more to it than that, we are thrilled!

We are very proud of the young man Dominic is becoming. He's worked very hard in all aspects of his life to get to a point where he could achieve his goal of being accepted to the United States Military Academy. We hope this will serve him well as he starts the next step on July 2nd at West Point.

Dominic was lucky that Aunt Vicki and Grandma could join us!

Graduation day was wonderful. Everyone cooperated with my plan of being ready at 11am for pictures so we got some great ones. Then Dominic headed to graduation ahead of us. We followed about an hour later on the train. We were early enough to have a little glass of wine before the ceremony, because if you know me, you know I like to leave time, just in case.

The ceremony was well done and the two student speakers and faculty speaker were all on point. Three students performed and all three were of course fabulous. As the students then walked across the stage it was interesting to listen to each student's next step. Many are attending school in the US but also in England, Holland, Italy, Germany and other countries. Many are also taking a "gap" year.

Afterwards there was a lovely reception with hors d'oeuvres and wine. This is something very different from the US because the students were also able to drink the wine if they chose. They are all of legal drinking age here in Germany. Some of their younger siblings also meet that age 16 requirement...

Next we made our way to the Sofitel hotel for a lovely dinner. The graduation committee did a fabulous job planning each detail and the Sofitel exceeded everyone's expectations for a lovely evening. We sat with great friends and had a wonderful table of twenty celebrating.

We did it!!!!!

Later that night the graduates and their parents, if they so choose, head over to the P1 Club (P Eins) for an all night party. Really all night, the club stays open until 5am. We sent Stefanie, Rachel, Grandma and Aunt Vicki home in a cab and then we took AJ with us to P1. He was allowed to go but had to be with an over 18 person to be admitted. The club was cool and the kids were having a blast. We stayed for one drink and headed home, AJ had school the next day! Dominic stayed all night with his friends and arrived home as we were all waking up for the day. Although we don't know from experience since Dominic is our first graduate, we are assuming this is a little different from a US graduation!
