College Visit - Ohio State!

While The Ohio State University was not the only college we visited, it is the only one where I took pictures. Could that be because it's my alma mater and still one of my favorite places?  Probably.

Pointing out the brick outside Ohio Stadium that my college girlfriends and I donated!
It was fun to take the boys to see campus. Dominic knew as soon as he walked out of the Ohio Union parking garage that it was too big for him. And Ohio State is big, it really is, but awesome too. AJ who is a giant OSU sports fan was just busy checking everything out.

Before our official presentation and tour we walked over to Ohio Stadium. Although it was under construction and most entrances were blocked we did find an open one and were able to sneak in for a quick look. AJ was thrilled and it was a gorgeous, sunny, beautiful, blue sky day which just made the stadium more amazing.

The boys did enjoy the presentation and the tour and AJ has a better feeling for the campus and the possibilities it could bring him. We will see what the future brings!

Taylor Swift Concert

Taylor Swift is a class act. We had an absolute blast at her concert in Philadelphia. She is a polished performer and she is fun to watch. Taking the girls to see her in concert was a fantastic thing for us to do together. The girls received the tickets for Christmas presents, I found out about a pre-sale and lucked into floor seats! We had such a great time and even got to spend an extra two hours together since there was a weather delay!

Taylor had three opening acts. I was impressed by this. Lots of entertainment while waiting for the headliner to start.

The first, Joel Crouse we hadn’t heard of, but he is a singer/songwriter and his music was enjoyable.

Next was Austin Mahone, I didn’t know his name but the girls did. Stefanie and Rachel were thrilled to find out he had joined the tour and to watch him perform because he. is. so. hot!  He sang well, did some fun dance moves and lived up to his image. Watch out Justin Bieber.

Ed Sheeran, Taylor’s official opening act was next. Stefanie and Rachel love his music as did many of the young girls around us in the audience. While he wouldn’t be described as a typical heartthrob the teens in the audience all seemed to be convinced that they were his number one fan.

As I watched my girls and the rest of the teens and tweens in the audience it got me thinking about who was my Ed Sheeran? Who did I think I loved more than anyone else, knew more of his songs, was his BIGGEST fan? I went to a lot of concerts throughout high school and college. It was hard to pick but I think I’ll go with Paul Young. I would have picked the lead singer of Hipsway since I got grounded for going to that concert but I don’t remember his name! Clearly I was not his biggest fan!

After Ed it was time for Taylor. The girls could not wait. It was a hot night and there was  a major chance of thunderstorms but the weather had seemed to hold so we were psyched. At exactly 8:45 when Taylor was supposed to start performing an announcement was made in the stadium. We actually couldn’t hear it the first time because all the screaming made us think the concert was beginning but no, it was an announcement that severe weather was approaching and for our safety we needed to clear the stadium. Oh no.

30 minutes later the stadium was empty and the lightening and thunder and rain started. It poured and poured and poured. People were sitting everywhere in the concourse hoping the storm was going to pass through in the predicted 25-45 minutes. We made friends with a family we were sitting near and chit chatted about life. Finally, 90 minutes after the first announcement, the storm passed and we were allowed back into the stadium.

I was seriously impressed that 30 minutes later everyone was back in their seats! The staff at the Lincoln Financial Field did a great job getting everyone moving. I also must mention our seats were dry.

At 10:45, two hours after she was scheduled to begin Taylor Swift started her show. It was worth the wait. She sang the girls favorites, she came out into the crowd, she danced and she played the guitar and piano. The show flowed nicely between songs with good connectors between costume changes. The sound was wonderful. We have only ever heard her live on awards shows and this was much better than any of those performances. We are glad we went and would highly recommend her concert if you are a fan!

Two weeks at the lake is always a wonderful time. We swim, relax, play games, make s'mores, take boat rides, tube, and partake in the Three Ps.  The three Ps are Pudgies pizza, Purity Ice Cream and Pines Burgers at the Glenwood Pines.

Hanging out with cousins

S'mores by the fire

Dinner at the Pines with Fareed & Lamia

Tubing was great fun as was time out on the boat!

Over the 4th we have our annual washers tournament. Rachel and Steve were excited to repeat as champions this summer!

We also shoot off a few fireworks and enjoy watching others do the same across the lake!

And before we left we enjoyed one last boat ride on Cayuga Lake!

Dominic's Eagle Scout Court of Honor

Dominic was awarded Eagle Scout rank today. We are so very proud of him.  So proud that he persevered through scouting all of these years to achieve the highest rank in the Boy Scouts of America. We are also impressed that he managed to achieve this at age 16.

Dominic actually earned Eagle last July. However his Board of Review was held just five days before we moved to Germany which didn't allow time for a ceremony too.

Dominic has followed in a long line of Eagle Scouts: Steve, his brother Motty, Motty's son Victor as well as my brother Todd. We are hopeful that AJ and our nephew Adam will also be joining this list.

Troop 125 organized a spectacular ceremony and Dominic was lucky to be awarded this rank along with two other fine scouts Chris Gillie and Jordan Adams.

We were also thrilled that so many members of our family were willing to make the trip to join us for this special occasion.   Motty and Victor were both there. Additionally, Steve's mom, my parents and sister, Melanie, Steve's sister Tina and her son Adam, as well as Steve's cousin Dianne were all there. A great crowd especially considering none of us live in the state of Delaware!
